While trees are growing, Rayonier timberlands can be used for a number of other income-generating activities. We license the hunting rights to local hunt clubs on many of our lands. Others who purchase rights for land use include beekeepers, cell phone tower owners, and landscapers who harvest pine straw for mulch. Individual permits are frequently issued to individuals who collect firewood, gather ornamental greens or recover cedar wood. Rayonier also grants easements for hiking and other forms of recreation. For more information, visit the Rayonier hunting website.
Lumber
Rayonier's Southeast Lumber Operations (SELO), headquartered in Baxley, Georgia, consists of three lumber mills--Baxley, Swainsboro and Eatonton--all located in Georgia. The annual combined capacity of these mills is 370 million board feet of southern pine dimension lumber and approximately 700,000 tons of co-product chips. SELO sells most of its lumber to be processed into pressure-treated wood or roof trusses. Chips are sold to pulp mills.
Log Trading
Rayonier log trading takes place in New Zealand and the Western U.S. In addition to selling standing timber and logs from our lands, we also purchase timber, typically from third-party-owned tracts. We merchandise and sell logs in the highest value markets, both domestic and export.
